I’ve been a counselor in training since I was probably 5 years old. Deeply intuitive, caring, and warm, I was the classic middle child of four siblings, solving the problems of my family and friends—and maybe even a neighborhood stray dog or two.  I decided to get some formal training when I grew up so that I could actually make a living being ME. Pretty cool, huh?

I majored in Social Work in college at James Madison University and several years (and many states and even a country) later obtained my MSW from the University of California at Berkeley. I am now proudly Licensed by the North Carolina Board of Social Work.  My interest in mental health stemmed from working as a case manager for many years in various fields including schools, domestic violence shelters, and child welfare. I found myself often referring clients out for counseling and wanting to be the person on the receiving end of those referrals.

This desire led to my seeking a job in mental health (after moving across the country from California!) that allowed me to work towards my LCSW. At the same time I received my license as a massage therapist and my interest in how the body and the mind work together grew. I started studying and practicing mindfulness and learning about how the body holds unresolved trauma.

I have since received training in the Trauma Resiliency Model and EMDR so that I can work more adeptly with the body and mind when resolving not only trauma, but also depression, anxiety, and general overwhelm from life transitions.

My therapeutic approach is eclectic in nature, as I weave in somatic psychotherapy with mindfulness and traditional talk therapy. I strongly believe that we are inherently good and whole as human beings and we sometimes need support to “press the reset button”.
